Regional Hubs launched in Latin America, Asia and Africa
Our Regional Hubs – in Latin America, Asia, and Sub-Saharan Africa are in full swing at the local level advocating, synthesising and convening under a unified theory of change with the global coalition.
Three Regional Hubs with 34 members and counting have launched their 2021-2023 workplans. The Hubs – led by Aulas en Paz in Colombia, HakiElimu in Tanzania and Samya Development Resources in India – are independently functioning communities of practice, each acting as a vibrant table at which regional actors can sit and exchange ideas on how to prevent violence in and through schools in their regions.
Through the leadership of dedicated coordinators, our three Hubs are hard at work formalizing their core membership, narrowing in on priority areas of focus for the next two years, and identifying key roles for members as they build the infrastructure for this work going forward.
“When we elevate and amplify the voices of practitioners in the Global South, we are more likely to arrive at solutions that are sustainable, and which work better for all.”
John Kalage, Sub-Saharan Africa Hub
2022 will see a Seminar Series from the Sub-Saharan Africa Hub unpacking findings from our recently published Evidence Review, a regional study on VAC prevention interventions in Asia through our Asia Hub, and a comprehensive technical note from the Latin America Hub on how violence against children is being addressed in Central and South America.
These Hubs are opportunities for practitioners, researchers, thought leaders and activists to have their voices heard within the growing movement to prevent violence against children in and through schools in the Global South.
“Prevention of violence against children in schools is one of the most powerful ways to contribute to peacebuilding in Colombia, which not only has one of the oldest internal conflicts of the world, but also high levels of violence related to narcotraffic and crime. Peace education and VAC prevention could help break the cycle of violence.”
José Fernando Mejía – Latin America Hub

“Over half a billion children experience violence in schools, resulting in serious psychological and physical harm with life long consequences. The Coalition for Good Schools is an apt platform for practitioners from the Global South to change the narrative and norms which perpetuate violence in schools; to enroll policy makers and stakeholders to take action, so that each child lives to their fullest potential.”
Sunita Menon – Asia Hub
